IVRate Calc is a program to make calculating intravenous drug infusion rates easier and quicker than using a calculator. It allows you to store iv infusion solutions in a database for quick and easy access. Or, you can manually enter the infusion information and dose if you wish.

Usage is simple. Either manually fill in the "mg", "ml", "weight", and "rate" fields, enter the dose then hit the "Calc" button. Alternatively, you can hit the "Drug" button to select a set of predefined values for the "mg", "ml", and "rate" fields.

To add medications other than the two that come pre-programmed with the application, tap the "Drug" button to go to the list of medications. Next, tap the "Edit" button in the upper right corner of the screen. You may now edit existing medications or add new ones.

Pros and cons of IVRate Calc app for iPhone and iPad

IVRate Calc app good for

Awesome iPhone app. Exactly what I was looking for. The ability to program your own database for simple medications or complex infusions virtually eliminates medical math and the need to look up mixing instructions in a hurry.
The only problem is it keeps defaulting back to pounds after Ive set to kilograms, and its a little hard to tell if youre in lbs or kgs mode. There should be a way to set to always use kg in the preferences to help prevent errors. Who uses pounds anymore anyway?
Please add different units of measurement and a place to add a note for each drug. Thank you
The rounding errors seen in previous version has been fixed. This is now my favorite program for calculating drip rates. It is fast and easy to use.
Just what I was looking for. This works very much like an app I had on my Palm device. Its easy to use and the layout is intuitive.
Hands down, this is the most versatile IV rate calculator out there. True, it only comes with 2 drugs preloaded, but it allows you to enter and save your own custom drip mixes (or hospital standards). You can also include notes with different drugs, which is helpful when trying to remember dosing ranges or whether or not its ok to mix vasopressin with d5w. Im an anesthetist, I mix a lot of my own drips up in the OR; this tool is invaluable and well worth the price.

Some bad moments

This program needs a lot of work. It only has two drugs on the list and not worth what they are charging. Dont waste your money like I did.
Some useful changes and additions in the next version would include: 1. Medications added by user should be automatically listed in alphabetical order which will speed up choosing the desired medication later. 2. A "Notes" section to allow user to keep track of standard drip rates 3. The ability to set a default starting drip rate.
After you add drugs, it keeps them as units, it wont let you change them to mg, etc. And it needs a way to back up the drugs that you input into the app. It gets old having to reprogram them into the app. Please fix
Absolutely terrible. It doesnt do the conversion for your medication. It doesnt give you the defaults. I wish I can get my money back.
